Children's Ministry at Epworth UMC

Sunday school

Proverbs 22:6

Start children off on the right path. And even when they are old, they will not turn away from it.

Sunday school is held from 9:30-10:30am, each Sunday morning. We then break into smaller groups by age (for children ages 3 through grade 5). There are also separate classes for middle high and high school held each week.

Our goal with weekly classes is to engage the children in regular exposure to the Bible, God and his son, Jesus Christ. Age appropriate lessons are created each week and use Sparkhouse curriculum as well as other approved sources. We hope to educate the children so that they will learn to know and love Jesus and His teachings.

No Sunday school on December 24 or December 31.

Nursery

Nursery care is available for children up to age 2 during the 9:30 a.m. informal service. Staffed with two experienced caregivers,. Beepers are provided to parents for contact during the services.

Acolyte Ministry

Boys and girls aged nine through 16 are encouraged to explore serving as acolytes during our 11:00 am traditional worship service. Acolytes wear albs, the white robes that signify servanthood, and assist the pastor during the service. They also light the candles on the Communion table each Sunday from the Christ candle, and symbolically carry Christ’s light into the world at the end of worship as an example of what each worshiper is called to do in our daily living—to carry the Light into the world.

Plans are underway to create a processional cross to be carried into the sanctuary by an acolyte. Beth Waltrup, one of Epworth’s talented woodcarvers, will design this addition to our worship experience.

If you are interested in serving as an acolyte (or even curious about what is involved), contact the pastor or church office or Mrs. Leslie Lindle. We plan to hold several parties and/or outings for our cadre of acolytes each year. Come and join in the fun!

Easter Egg Hunt

Join us on the church lawn at 9:30 am for our annual Easter Egg Hunt. For children to grade 5.

Trunk or Treat

Each October, church members decorate their cars and pass out candy in our parking lot to kids through

grade five.
