Reclaim Sabbath, pt. 2

Plan a True Sabbath Day (then follow through and actually observe it!)

Decide if you will rest with God on Saturday or Sunday (or, if those days cannot work for you, pick a day that does). Prepare meals ahead of that day. Make a list of the things you won’t do—not to be legalistic, but in order to reorient yourself toward God. Then, list out those things you will do—not to create a mandatory “To-Do” list (or to evaluate your Sabbath Success), but again as a tool for reorienting your thinking. Re-read the following sections in yesterday’s article: Ceasing, Resting, Embracing, Feasting, Marking the Day; let these suggestions guide you.

Use your journal to record your reflections.

Go Deeper: If your Sabbath Day is not Sunday, consider attending worship in another tradition that day. Every Roman Catholic parish offers a daily Mass, and many Protestant churches offer mid-week services.
